Innovative Marine BioSkim DC AIO Internal Nano Protein Skimmer - Universal
Category: aquatic life protein skimmer
Protein Skimmer Product Description and FAQ:
The protein skimmer is designed to fit most AIO (all-in-one) and standalone aquariums. Before purchasing, it is essential to measure the area of your aquarium to ensure a proper fit. The skimmer is rated for up to 34 gallons and can be conveniently dropped into the middle chamber of a Coralife biocube 16 or the pump section of a biocube 32.
The skimmer features a low-voltage direct current needle wheel pump, an adjustable height hanger, and a waterline indicator. It also includes an external air silencer, a dry skim convex lid, and a bubble plate diffuser. This product is intended for marine/saltwater use only and does not come with rubber feet.
Regarding the FAQ:
Q: Why do I have microbubbles in my aquarium? A: Microbubbles may appear during the "break-in" period as the new protein skimmer is adjusting. The skimmer needs to build a slime coating inside and adapt to the additives and chemicals in the aquarium water.
Q: When will the excess microbubbles disappear? A: Most people will see a gradual decrease in microbubbles over 7-10 days as the skimmer adjusts. Please be patient.
Q: Should I turn on my protein skimmer during an aquarium cycle? A: No, do not turn on the skimmer during an aquarium cycle. Your tank needs to grow beneficial bacteria, and the skimmer may slow down this process. You can leave the skimmer in the aquarium to help build a slime coat, but do not plug in the skimmer pump until the cycle is complete.
Q: Can I use the skimmer in freshwater? A: No, protein skimmers are not designed for freshwater. The low density of freshwater will not produce the proper bubble size for the skimmer to work effectively.
Q: Why do some people experience microbubbles while others don't? A: Every aquarium is different in water chemistry, with varying levels of added chemicals, bacteria, excess food, and even oils from hands, all of which can cause excess microbubbles.
Q: How do I adjust the skimmer? A: The skimmer can be adjusted by the hanger and fine-tuned by raising or lowering the collection cup.
Q: Why are there microbubbles escaping from under the collection cup? A: You may need to adjust the hanger so the body sits higher to prevent microbubbles from escaping.
Q: What is the wavy water line sticker on the skimmer body? A: This is the suggested water line for most aquariums, but you should adjust the hanger according to your specific aquarium.
Q: How often do I empty the collection cup? A: Most people empty the collection cup 1-2 times a week. Rinse the cup under tap water and replace it.
